Shihan Rodriguez started training in the martial arts at the age of 13 under Sensei Rey Sanchez of USA Goju in the art of Goju Ryu Karate-do. In those days we trained 5 days a week and there was no protective equipment worn. In 1978, at the age of 17 he received his black belt (Sho-dan) and continued to train in different dojos in the South Florida area.
In 1980, Shihan Rodriguez joined the United States Marine Corps and continued his training in Marine Corps Martial arts, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu as well as teaching Goju Ryu Karate-do at the base karate club. Shihan Rodriguez was assigned a tour of duty in Okinawa Japan where he trained in Grand Master Morio Higaoanna’s dojo.. Shihan Rodriguez is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
In 1989, Shihan Rodriguez joined and trained with the World Sansei Goju Ryu Karate-do organization under Hanshi Manny Saavedra and Shihan Juan C Bofill. He continued to train with Shihan Bofill in Japanese Goju Ryu Karate-do.
Shihan Rodriguez is married with three children, his wife holds a black belt in Cuong Nhu Oriental martial art's and his son’s hold black belts in Goju Ryu karate-do. His ten year old daughter also trains in Goju Ryu. Shihan Rodriguez is a retired veteran police officer, having served the City of Hialeah Police department. Shihan Rodriguez is currently a reserve officer as well as a police instructor and certified physical trainer. Shihan Rodriguez is the operator and chief instructor of the GOJU WARRIORS Karate Dojo located in Palm Springs North Florida and a board member of the World Sansei Koryu Goju Ryu Karate-do & Kobudo Organization.
